Who is required to register under EPF?
This act is applied to
a. every establishment which is a factory engaged in any industry specified in Schedule I and in which twenty or more persons are employed; and
b. any other establishment employing twenty or more persons or class of such establishments which the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify in this behalf

What is the contribution under EPF?
At present, Employee is required to contribute 12% of Basic Wages plus DA plus other allowances. If any employee wants to contribute more than the limit then, he can do the same.
What are the benefits of EPF?

Is it compulsory to deduct and deposit EPF?
Yes, it is compulsory to deduct and deposit the same within 15days from the end of the month.
Can employer deduct employer’s share of contribution from the wages of employees?
No. It is not permissible. Any such deduction is a criminal offence.
Is daily rated employee or the piece rated employee also cover under EPF?
Yes, all the employees are covered under the EPF whether he is part time, full time, experienced, unskilled etc.
Can an employee contribute to the EPF after leaving the service?
No. It is not possible to deposit the EPF after leaving the service.
Can a member pay contribution in excess of the statutory rate of 12%?
Ans : Yes. The member can pay voluntary contribution in excess of his normal contribution of 12% of Rs.15000/-. The total contribution i.e., voluntary + mandatory can be up to Rs.15000/- per month. (The employer may restrict his own share to the statutory rate). The member can also contribute on higher wages i.e., >15000/- after getting permission from APFC/RPFC as per the provisions of para-26(6) of the Scheme.
How the contract employees are protected and given their P.F. when the contractor is not paying the dues to the principal employer?
It is the duty of the principal employer to ensure that the Contractor discharges his liability. The Principal Employer must allow payment of bills after ensuring that the Contractor has enrolled and complied in respect of all eligible contract employees every month.
Can employee withdraw the amount from EPF account?
Yes, employee can withdraw the balance in EPF account but there is some condition attached to it.
What are situation/condition for which amount can be withdrawn from provident fund account?
Amount can be withdrawn from provident fund account in these cases
a. payment of premia towards a policy or policies of Life Insurance of a member
b. Withdrawal for purchasing a dwelling house or flat or for construction of a dwelling house including the acquisition of a suitable site for the purpose, or for completing/continuing the construction of a dwelling house, already commenced by the member or the spouse and an additional advance for additions, alteration or substantial improvement necessary to the dwelling house
c. Temporary closure of any factory or establishment for more than fifteen days, for reasons other than a strike
d. In case of hospitalisation lasting one month or more or major surgical operation in a hospital or suffering from T.B etc.
e. Daughter/sons marriage, self-marriage, the marriage of sister/brother or for the post matriculation education of son or daughter
f. In case property is damaged by a calamity of exceptional nature such as floods, earthquakes or riots
g. Withdrawals for repayment of loans in special cases
h. In case of physically handicapped members, for purchasing an equipment required to minimise the hardship on account of handicap
Is there any time limit for withdrawal of Provident Fund dues?
Only in the case of resignation from service (not superannuation) a member has to wait for a period of two months for withdrawal of the PF amount.
In case of change in employment whether a member can get his PF account transferred?
On change in employment, the member should necessarily get his PF account transferred to his present establishment.
